First Childbirth Education Class

This class is the first of two we'll take which will supposedly "prepare" us for childbirth. the first thing we learn is that we are just about the furthest along than anybody in the class and that perhaps we should have done this earlier. Brian does really well with the graphic videos of natural childbirth, though he's convinced he'd prefer to be what our instructor refers to as a "head coach," meaning he'll stay firmly installed by Lauren's head and nowhere near where "things" are happening. Next week we see a c-section. Good luck, Brian. We take a tour of the maternity wing and see a few just-born babies, and one tiny little preemie. We learn how to breathe in through the nose, and out through the mouth, vice versa, plus mouth-mouth and nose-nose. We're not convinced of the usefulness of this exercise, unless the whole point of complicated breathing techniques are to distract Lauren from the pain. Next week we learn to do that crazy panting thing.
